Theta Chi, Iota Mu chapter has raised $1,130 as of Oct. 21 for Cassidy-Rae Luebbering, who was diagnosed with cerebral palsy in her early childhood.
The fraternity adopted Cassidy-Rae as its Miracle Child in February as part of MizzouThon, the largest philanthropic event at MU. Since MizzouThon, the fraternity has kept in close contact with Cassidy-Rae. Several brothers have attended events with Cassidy-Rae such as a Valentine’s Day party and have made several visits to the Luebberings’ home.
The fraternity’s goal is to raise $15,000 for the Luebbering family, which will help the family purchase tile and bathroom equipment needed to make the bathroom wheelchair accessible. The fraternity has started a gofundme account, www.gofundme.com/cassidy-rae, which has been shared 241 times and has received 23 donations in the span of about a month.
Daniel Lucchesi, president of Theta Chi, Iota Mu chapter, said raising the money for the Luebbering family is one of the fraternity’s top priorities.
“Cassidy-Rae provides us with a constant reminder of how important philanthropy is to an organization, and how the littlest things can make a big difference in another person’s life,” Lucchesi said. “We ask that everyone donates to our campaign. Because if everyone donates just a little bit, we will reach our goal.”
