Brother of the Month (April): Zach Smith

Earlier this Spring, sophomore Zach Smith was named the head liaison for Mizzou's Greek Week 2016. As head liaison, Zach was in charge of overseeing various aspects of Greek Week and ensuring that everyone was doing what was necessary in order to be successful. This past fall, Zach took several leadership roles in Homecoming. Zach's creative ability was a huge help designing and painting house decks, and he was able to implement his creativity to lead Theta Chi to a successful third place finish in Greek Week. The way Zach handled the unique challenges that come with being a head liaison were admirable; consequently, we have decided to name Zach brother of the month for his awesome work.

One of the biggest challenges, according to Zach, was communication. "One of the biggest challenges was staying organized with the other fraternities and sororities in our pairing", Zach points out, "We struggled to get participation if we weren't communicating on the same page." As the week went on, Zach's leadership came to the forefront as he was able to unify the pairing and garner significant participation. Our new members, a group of 15 men, were who Zach credits for being his greatest help. Their hard work was essential for the pairing's 4th place finish in service, a crucial Greek Week event. Communicating with hundreds of members within a pairing is not an easy task, but Zach and his other liaisons were able to be successful across the board in the Greek Week events, which is a true testament to Zach's leadership.

Looking back on Greek Week, Zach believes the leadership experience he received will propel him to more success in the future. When asked about his role in homecoming Zach said, "I thought taking a Greek Week liaison position would be a good idea to challenge me, and now I'm excited for this upcoming fall for an even bigger challenge (homecoming)". Zach's creativity, communication, and leadership helped lead our pairing to an impressive third place finish, and we are excited to see what Zach will be able to accomplish this upcoming Fall in Homecoming.
