On April 29th, Theta Chi-Iota Mu hosted it's annual "Bowling For Breast Cancer" event at the AMF Town and Country Lanes. Bowling For Breast Cancer is the biggest philanthropy event of the year for the chapter, and this year's event was expected to be the most successful one yet. Last year's event was able to help raise money to fund the Ellis Fischel cancer center's new "Mamm van", a mobile mammography center that uses 3-D breast scanning technology to provide life-saving screening for women in need. This year's event raised $3,854 dollars, and we are thrilled to see how the money will continue to assist the cancer center in the future!
CJ Ardini, Theta Chi's philanthropy chair, was tasked with orchestrating the Bowling For Breast Cancer event. Without his hard work, the event wouldn't be the success that it was. Much of CJ's semester was dedicated to planning the event, reaching out to businesses and organizations, and ensuring that sufficient money would be raised during this event. For CJ, his biggest challenge was communicating with all of the Theta Chi members. He pointed out their importance saying, "They are they reason there were so many sororities signed up, and it was their moms who came in town and helped raise so much money." CJ was successful at utilizing his brothers to put together a great event, and he is excited to look forward to making next year's event even better. "After doing this once," CJ said, "I know what worked and I'm very eager to start planning next year's event."
This year's event had one of the best turnouts the event has seen. There was support campus wide from various organizations and sororities. Chi Omega, for instance, brought a team to bowl and help support Theta Chi's cause. Alyssa Sturgis, a senior Chi Omega, attended Bowling For Breast Cancer and was excited to participate saying, "Chi Omega hosted our very first dodgeball tournament this year for our philanthropy, and Theta Chi got a team to come out and play. So Chi O was thrilled to sign up teams for Theta Chi's Bowling For Breast Cancer event when we heard about it." Alongside other organizations, Bowling For Breast Cancer also coincided with our Mom's weekend, so our mom's even got to join in on the event and be a part of supporting our philanthropy. The support from other organizations was essential to the event's success, and we were grateful for all those who came out and supported.
Bowling For Breast Cancer was an incredible success, and we look forward to continuing our partnership with the Ellis Fischel Cancer Center in the future. Check out more pictures from the event below:
